MY JOB
Three days to Christmas, Eden called. Our discussion centered on Christmas gifts for our husbands. Easy enough. The convo was over in 20 minutes. Before she hung up she said ‘just show a lil’ more love this Christmas, darling’
Hiannnnnnn. More love kwa. I never try?
I didn’t even give that message a second thought as I drifted off to sleep.
GBAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
…a door slams shut and children are running all over the place.
…a stereo is turned on so loud. And one of these meaningless naija songs is jamming.
…a woman starts shouting at her dog ‘Roger’ to eat or she will throw him downstairs.
Jizoxxxxxxxxxxxxx So I can’t even have a decent siesta in this compound. I am barely three months in this neighbourhood and I’m on the verge of losing my mind.
My neighbours…what can I say?
Neighbour A and his wife are never home till midnight so the kids have liberty to run berserk and disturb us that are ‘sane’.
Neighbour B has many guy friends. And all the convos I have overheard…eishhhhhhhhh…parental guidiance needed.
Neighbour C is pleasant but very busy and rarely home. His wife is home most times, I have never seen a crack a smile since we moved and she shouts at everyone…including the dog.
Mschewwwwwwww I can’t sleep with all the noise. I stare out the window and replay my convo with Eden ‘…show a lil’ love’, she says. To who naaaaaaaaaaaa? I think.
I just stare out in frustration at the people making my siesta time impossible…The Neighbours. Ohhhhhhh. That’s it. I can show love to my neighbours. Sweat dripping down my face. How? Christmas gifts. Everybody loves getting gifts…at least I do.
Long story short…on Christmas day, my gifts went out.
It was worth it. The surprise on the faces of the kids that nearly drove me mad and the hugs they lavished on me thereafter…
The ‘God bless you’ from a usually vulgar mouth…
A big smile of thanks from the very tight lipped woman… All worth it. Clap for meooooooooo.
I enjoyed the feeling of showing love.
It felt so good doing my job and I plan to take that job seriously in the New Year. God loves us all and his greatest joy is seeing us love each other as well. I am sure I will have the time of my life…
Loving God
Loving myself (of course)
Loving others
Loving animals (snakes not included)
Loving this world.
I will love and rejoice in the peace and happiness it brings to me always.
