Going through the Bible, we read about amazing women who made history. I have enjoyed reading about Sarah, Rahab, Ruth, Hannah, Bathsheba and Mary. There are so many lessons to learn from these women. None the less I’d like to talk to you today about one bad girl who has fascinated me. The Bible, you know, does refer to both good girls and bad girls. Now why would God record in His word stories about bad girls? Well, for the same reason He records stories about good girls. So that we can analyze their lives, see what we can learn from them, repeat what is good and avoid what is bad. So let’s take a look today at the story of probably one of the baddest girls ever recorded in the Bible. That is the story of Jezebel.

Now, if you have ever been a bad girl, or maybe even leaned toward being a bad girl, someone at some time may have referred to you as a Jezebel. I hope not, but some have been. Her name has come to represent the worst of the bad girls.Some readers may not be familiar with her background, some may need a refresher. Her Biblical story can be found in the 1st and 2nd chapters of Kings.

If Jezebel strolled into a boardroom today, she’d be hired in a heartbeat. Intelligent, courageous, and assertive, she was a born leader with considerable influence who boldly took on the competition and got things done.
You can only imagine what will happen when such a woman honors the Lord. As in, great things will happen. But this pushy Phoenician princess worshiped Baal, a fertility god. Yes indeed, she had great qualities but look what she did with them: She had a finely tuned mind, but used it to devise evil schemes. She had boldness and courage, but used those attributes to commit murder. She had strong leadership abilities, but used them to take over the throne. She had an assertive personality, but used it to draw people away from God. She had a royal lineage, but used it to manipulate her subjects. Jezebel is the Lady Macbeth of the Bible.

So what lessons can we learn from this bad girl?
First of all, for the singles out there We must learn that the person we decide to marry may bring their religion to the marriage. Her hubby was certainly not one of history’s good guys. In fact, Ahab “did more evil in the eyes of the Lord than any of those before him” (1 Kings 16:30). Topping the list of Ahab’s sins? “He married Jezebel … and began to serve Baal and worship him” (1 Kings 16:31). 1 Kings 21:25 summarizes the situation, “But there was none like unto Ahab, who did sell himself to do that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.”
It is important that we decide to marry someone who will be faithful to God. We are to seek God’s kingdom first in our lives (Matthew 6:33) and this would be in regard to the choice we have for a spouse as well. The person we marry will have a position of great influence over our lives. They will have input on matters related to our money, our schedule, our children, our activities, and our worship. It is the greatest place of influence that a person might have in another’s life. That influence can be either for good or for bad depending upon what kind of person we marry. Therefore, we would do well to marry a faithful Christian.
Secondly, for wives, the only person who saw Ahab as weak was Jezebel. It may be our strong-willed nature – and not their weak-willed one – that makes them appear “less than”. So, let’s pray for a gentler, more supportive spirit.
Also, we as women of Christ can learn from Jezebel to be loyal and dedicated to our worship of Christ. We need to be the power behind our families and be the spiritual guide to those Christ brings into our presents. Jezebel brought people of the LORD to worship baal. We need to bring those people the LORD brings to us toward a closer walk with Him. We need to demonstrate the same kind of tenacity and conviction to direct the Will and the Way of Christ to our families and those who are placed in our path.
Then, as a wife, be indispensable. I believe one of the reasons why Jezebel had so much of an influence on Ahab was that she could get him what she wanted. She had balls, she could get things done. This does not equate to washing of boxers and clothes only. She could help him get information that would land him that contract, she knows what he likes and find out in advance how to get them, then relay the information to him, when he hits a wall he comes to her, he may sulk like Ahab but when she asks him, they will reason for a solution together. She gradually weaves herself like a toxic poison into his life and he cannot do without her, she is not one of those pushover girls mind you, her sharp rebuff will mellow him and he would not want to see her dark side.

Lastly, as a worker, no one wants to work for a witch. When we have a legitimate leadership role, let’s do it with grace and compassion. They say women in power tend to misbehave are not only bitchy to other women but hold on to it like the last of the nine lives of a cat. we can see here not only did it affect her, it affected every single person around her- her husband died because of her, all her kids followed in her foot step, she murdered her grand children except for Joash. This woman had a lot going on, she was vile wicked and selfish, she left everywhere a sea of destruction. Power in the right hands is a virtue, think Margaret Thatcher in her prime but a fab’ one.
