Just Us Girls’ Summit ’20

I am so excited to announce that Just Us Girls Summit, a networking and empowering platform for girls, will be having her first Virtual conference in celebration of the International Day of the Girl-Child on Sunday, 11th October, 2020.

My Voice, Our Equal Future

We are celebrating girls’ right to education and highlighting the need to eliminate all forms of discrimination against girls.

Girls face multiple challenges purely because of their age and gender. In many of the world’s poorest places, the odds are stacked against them when factors like ethnicity and disability heighten the existing disadvantages that they face. From being denied an education to being forced into child marriage, girls face a myriad of obstacles that prevent them from realising their full potential.

This is why this year, Just Us Girls Summit will be running a competition to support girls and their families.  Under the theme, “My voice, our equal future”, I encourage you to take part in the summit competition and seize the opportunity to reimagine a better world inspired by adolescent girls.
(See posters to find out how we’re making a difference to girls’ lives around the world).

The competition is for young people between the ages of 10 and 18 has been tailored separately for boys and girls, and also for teachers.

Tagged the #HeForShe #JUGS20 competition, young men between the ages of 10 to 18 are encouraged to send in as entries, videos of themselves not longer than 60 seconds explaining the importance of male voices in the call for girls’ empowerment, and what commitments they will be making in their own capacity to the cause.

Boys’ Competition

For girls (10 -18), the #GirlChampion #JUGS20 competition is aimed at showcasing the ambition of bright talented girls across the country by asking them to send in videos talking about how they are empowering themselves to be unstoppable.

Girls’ Competition

For teachers, the #MeToo #JUGS20 competition is aimed at teachers showcasing the roles they are playing to make school spaces safe for girls.

Teachers’ Competition

The competition, which closes at midnight on October 4, will see six champions picked from both genders and teachers.

It was a deliberate decision to include young men in this campaign, because male allies are vital to the attainment of gender parity in the society, and we need to start including men in the conversation, as early and strongly as we do women.
